The Reinventing Critical Theory series publishes cutting edge work that seeks to reinvent critical social theory for the 21st century. It serves as a platform for new research in critical philosophy that examines the political, social, historical, anthropological, psychological, technological, religious, aesthetic and/or economic dynamics shaping the contemporary situation. Books in the series provide alternative accounts and points of view regarding the development of critical social theory and put critical theory in dialogue with other intellectual traditions and/or with important developments in areas such as postcolonial studies, feminism, queer theory, environmental philosophy and critical race theory. The series aims at developing and advancing new forms of pluralist critical theory that contest in various ways the current hegemonic order.

The series is particularly interested in work that proposes methodological innovations that surpass the standard divisions of knowledge and academic expertise. More specifically, it seeks to serve as a window for research that combines deep theoretical reflection with a dedication to understanding and elucidating concrete cultural particulars. This means that it aims, as well, at renewing and deepening the dedication of critical theory, broadly construed, to working between the human and social sciences, between theory and practice, inside and beyond the academy. In its dedication to broadening the international scope and transnational engagements of critical theory, the series is also interested in integrating reliable translations of important contemporary work that is not yet available in English. In particular, it seeks to publish lesser-known works by established intellectuals and to lend visibility to thinkers from the non-Anglophone world who remain liminal or unknown in English-speaking circles. The series thus seeks to give voice to emerging trends that lie outside the mainstream or critically question it from within. It thereby aims at creating a platform for what we might call the intellectual underground of contemporary critical theory.
